Truvelo was originally founded in 1966 by the late FJ Gebert who pioneered the use of piezo-electric cables for vehicle axle detection. This led to the development of the first truly accurate instrument for vehicle speed measurement, hence the name Truvelo, which stands for "true velocity". Truvelo has since evolved to become a world-renowned supplier of road safety solutions.
Equipment is available for hand-held, mobile and fixed-site applications, and provides users with the flexibility to successfully implement a wide range of traffic safety strategies.
Truvelo’s speed-measurement and red light enforcement systems are UK Home Office Type Approved. HOTA means that the company’s solutions can be used on public highways by the police, Safety Camera Partnerships and Community Speed Watch groups to prosecute both criminal and civil offences.
In addition, Truvelo has a successful track record of supplying speed-management/mitigation solutions to private organisations for use on non-public roads. Examples include quarries, large manufacturing complexes, business and scientific parks, and airports.
As well as its speed-measurement systems, Truvelo supplies a class-leading range of radar-activated speed information display signs which provide an additional traffic data collection capability.
The company has also developed a ground-breaking back office solution, the Violation Management System, which provides end-to-end processing of all types of criminal and civil offences, and which can accommodate data feeds from numerous manufacturers’ devices.
Uniquely within its domestic market, Truvelo has the ability to provide a full-spectrum installation service using its own, in-house resources. This reduces the time taken to deploy systems and maximises the ability to meet customers’ precise needs.

Truvelo is proud to announce that it has been awarded a place on the new Crown Commercial Services framework Transport Technology & Associated Services (TTAS), previously known as TMT2 Traffic Management Technology. This will permit UK Public Sector bodies to procure from Truvelo by way of direct award as well as further competition through LOT2 and LOT7.
