140MPH BMW driver claims he didn’t know how fast he was going

An alarming enforcement video released by Durham Constabulary reveals a driver being tracked on the A1 whilst traveling at 140mph. In a move to enhance road safety, Durham Constabulary adopted Truvelo’s cutting-edge LASERcam 4 technology, a decision that underscores the force's commitment to combating the 'Fatal Four' driving offences. This advanced enforcement tool is not only a testament to the police's dedication to road safety but also a part of a broader initiative that sees the introduction of the 'Fatal Four Enforcement Solution' (FFES) by Truvelo across the UK.

Speeding is just one element of the 'Fatal Four' offences targeted by UK police forces, alongside distracted driving, non-wearing of seatbelts, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. These offences are a major focus of road safety enforcement, as they are commonly associated with severe accidents and fatalities on the roads.

To further bolster their road safety offering, Truvelo is continuing to invest in the FFES; this comprehensive package includes vehicle-mounted technology that not only detects speeding but also monitors a range of moving traffic violations. The FFES is equipped with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras, a 360-degree high-powered zoom ANPR, and robust CCTV systems, all integrated into a touch screen network video recorder. This system operates continuously, whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion, and can function independently or in conjunction with the LASERcam 4. Headlines abound with regards to seatbelt and mobile phone enforcement, but uniquely, FFES is enormously scalable and presents incredible value for money. Crucially and as seen in the video, FFES drives collaboration between Safety Camera teams and Roads Policing units, which Truvelo believes is very much the future of road safety.

The rollout of FFES-equipped vans across the UK represents a proactive approach by Truvelo's forward-thinking clients to address not just the 'Fatal Four' but also the additional critical offence of driving without due care and attention. This 'Fatal Four' initiative is a global policing effort to reduce road deaths by targeting the most common causes.

The introduction of these technologies marks a significant step forward towards dynamic, roving enforcement. It allows police forces to efficiently and effectively enforce traffic regulations, ultimately aiming to reduce the number of casualties on the roads. With the LASERcam 4 and FFES, UK police are better equipped than ever to ensure the safety of all road users, reflecting a commitment to innovation and excellence in roads policing.

As these technologies become more widespread, the hope is that they will serve as a deterrent to dangerous driving behaviours, leading to safer roads and communities across the UK and beyond. The message is clear: road safety is paramount, and the police are taking every measure to ensure that the laws are respected and lives are protected.
