Met Police Road Danger Reduction Team Steps Up Speed Enforcement Across London
The Metropolitan Police’s new Road Danger Reduction Team (RDRT) is strengthening its approach to tackling excess speed across London, helping to respond more effectively to community concerns and support safer roads across the capital.
Since its formation earlier this year, the RDRT has been able to better direct enforcement and education opportunities relating to excess speed, using intelligence and local community concerns to identify where action is needed most.
The approach supports the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, which places a greater focus on visible, responsive and locally driven policing.
14,000 offences detected each month
A key element of the RDRT’s enforcement capability is Truvelo’s Home Office Type Approved (HOTA) LaserCam 4. Since its deployment, the team has seen detected speeding offences increase from around 1,000 to 14,000 per month.
The significant increase demonstrates both the capability of modern enforcement technology the scale of the speeding challenge facing London.
With the Metropolitan Police responsible for policing one of the UK's most densely populated urban areas, tackling excess speed remains an important part of reducing road casualties and improving road safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
From detection to resolution
